Turing by Guto Requena, nature, science and diversity
Depicted as “one of Brazil’s fab five” in the Queer Eye series, architect and designer Guto Requena emerges as a leading figure of the new generation of architects and designers in Brazil and on the international scene. From his studio, new digital technologies, cyberculture and hybrid realities are themes that run through all his projects.

From the observation of the algorithms created almost a hundred years ago by the English mathematician and computer scientist Alan Turing (London, 1912-1954), the architect and his team began a conceptual search to design the collection. After studying the presence of geometric patterns in nature, as in the case of ocean corals, they performed several digital simulations of overlap and scale. After numerous tests and inspired by the mathematician’s life story, they defined the sizes, patterns and colors of the folders that give life to Turing, a collection that celebrates nature, science and diversity.

This collaboration was a new opportunity to further strengthen our bond with the Brazilian culture and design that inspires us so much. The collection belongs to our Alexa line of 100% pure wool woven folders. It is crafted with a double-height cut pile texture, providing a more interesting and fluffy feel when stepping on.

Guto Requena has a degree in Architecture and Urban Planning. For nine years, he was a researcher at the Center for Interactive Housing Studies and, in 2007, he obtained his master’s degree at the same University with the dissertation “Hybrid Inhabiting: Interactivity and Experience in the Age of Cyberculture”.
In 2008, he founded Estudio Guto Requena and, since then, has received several awards, given numerous lectures and exhibited in more than 20 countries. Since 2011, the architect has been creating, scripting and presenting series for TV, Web and film and has participated in the Netflix series Queer Eye.
