Reinos: the new collection of rugs from El Espartano and Cabinet Óseo

Nature seen through a microscopic lens came to life in “Kingdoms”. This collection of rugs from El Espartano, created in collaboration with Cabinet Óseo, explores the hidden beauty of the plant and animal kingdoms, fusing art and textile design in three unique pieces.

The collection consists of Crisálida, Irupé and Banano, three rugs that invite you to immerse yourself in small natural worlds. Each of these pieces reflects organic shapes and textures inspired by elements such as the chrysalis of an insect, the delicate ribs of the irupé aquatic plant and the fascinating internal structures of the banana tree trunk. The result is a proposal that challenges the limits between art and design, where the carpets become textile sculptures full of life and three-dimensionality.

Last Thursday, August 15, from 7pm to 10pm, “Reinos” was presented at Comité357, a unique space located in the historic Retiro neighborhood, in the heart of downtown Buenos Aires. With its unique and evocative ambiance, the venue became the ideal setting for the event, transporting attendees to an immersive environment where the “Kingdoms” carpets shone brightly. The event gathered an audience curious to explore this innovative fusion of art and textile design.

During the event, Cabinet Óseo artists Celina Saubidet and Marina Molinelli Wells shared details about the creative process that gave rise to the collection. “What mattered most to us was to give a three-dimensional character to the rugs, and that they should not remain flat. We played with the pile heights, with the colors and managed to force the maximum three-dimensionality possible in a rug,” they explained.

The collaboration originated in an exhibition presented by Cabinet Óseo in 2019 at the National Museum of Decorative Art, an exhibition that El Espartano accompanied with carpets that served as the basis for the large chrysalis sculptures. When the works were removed, the marked traces triggered the initial idea for the development of an innovative collection.
