El Espartano and Lidewij Edelkoort together at Milan Design Week 2024

El Espartano will participate in the Milan Design Week. From April 15 to 21, under the curatorship of renowned trend expert Lidewij Edelkoort, it will present the “Garden” collection at the prestigious Rossana Orlandi gallery.

The collection, composed of 10 pieces, is an expression of hope inspired by nature. There are 9 rugs and an innovative puff, reflecting the vitality and freshness of an enveloping garden, woven in 100% wool especially for this occasion.

“Garden” appears as a space of hope and salvation, “a garden where you can project a moment of happiness. Like nature is part of culture and surrounds us since the beginning of creative expression. We decided to create a timeless garden reminiscent of childhood inspired by outsider art, with the innocence of wildly drawn flowers, cut-out leaves, botanical collages and a flower bed,” says Lidewij Edelkoort in his curatorial text.

Conceived from the sketches of Brazilian artist Sergio Machado, the collection captures the essence of manual techniques such as watercolor and collage. In translating the designs to fabric, El Espartano sought to preserve the organic style, free stroke and spontaneity of the artist in the creative process.

Each piece in the collection is unique. Its intentional irregular boundaries accentuate the playful spirit. Some pieces feature a single height of cut pile, while others exhibit variations of three heights and combinations of cut and bouclé pile textures. All of them were woven with tufting system and have handcrafted finishing details that enhance their quality. The single-height pieces also have a special dedication to achieve a velvety effect to the touch and sight.

The exhibition will be open to the public from April 15 to 21, from 9.30 am to 8 pm. Wednesday from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm at the Galleria Rossana Orlandi located in Via Matteo Bandello 14 – 20123 Milano.
