Macchi at the Bellas Artes
by Jorge Macchi
On a large carpet lie four spots that appear to have fallen from the ceiling and been destroyed. Curiously, the four illuminated fragments that would have generated these spots on the carpet are the only thing that remains visible of the plot, while the rest seems to have vanished, leading the viewer to reflect on the significance and constructive power of light, one of the central questions of Macchi’s work. “La noche de los Museos”, the name of this site-specific installation, was made by Jorge Macchi for the Bemberg Hall of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires as part of “Perspectiva”, the artist’s first retrospective exhibition in the country. The rug was developed using a score of wool colors meticulously combined to achieve the complex weft sfumato effects.
